When it comes to my style I’ve taken on the approach that less is definitely more. A well-cut coat, a statement heel or an interesting bag will always heighten a simple look and make it into something special. Which is why, as I weaved my way around Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre, I had these key rules in the back of my mind.
Now that autumn has firmly hit the nation (and more importantly, the shops), there couldn’t be a better time to get out your comfy trainers and hit the high-street. From the new addition of Monki to firm faves like New Look and H&M, the Arndale pretty much has you covered. Topshop was my first port of call as I hunted for a new A/W outfit and I had one thing on my mind: shoes.
Shoes are often a neglected part of an outfit - just those things we have to put on in order to leave the house. We’ll grab any pair that we think ‘kinda goes’ with our outfits, not thinking any more of them once we’re out and about. But recently I’ve come to learn the value of shoes and how transformative they can be to a look. And, like a magpie looking for jewels, I spotted these Topshop GALA Sculptured Heel Mules to be the base of my look, adding their Metallic Beaded Shoulder Bag to mirror the silver ball on the shoes.
Shoes ticked off, I decided to work my way up. Knowing that I wanted to pair the shoes with something a bit more understated to show them off, I headed straight to New Look for a pair of
their Harlow Straight Leg jeans. Tonal shades are a huge hit for autumn/winter so I went for a dark pair of jeans and black t-shirt from H&M to keep all the shades the same colour (and obviously more flattering that way too!). Having spied some chic coats in H&M I tried a few on in the changing room. The camel shade was a close contender but I ended up choosing a grey, straight coat to tone in with the silver and black shades of the outfit!
And as we all know, no outfit is complete without accessories! I knew I was looking for something plain but eye-catching which is why I went to Monki for a pair of cool, on-trend earrings. I found these silver, chunky hoops to tie in with the architectural style of the shoes - and the perfect earrings to match any kind of outfit!
A one-stop shopping destination, the Manchester Arndale combines both affordability with trend. Buy separates that you can wear time and time again and throw them together with a few
statement pieces from fash-pack faves like Topshop, to strike the perfect balance between functionality and fashion!
